In Back to the Future III, set in 1885, the first glimpse of the courthouse’s kabalistic clock face–its clock tower–is when it is being delivered (top), displaying a time of 10:04, anticipating the November 12th, 1955, 10:04 p.m. lightning strike that will cease it from operating. When Marty and Doc pose for a picture before the clock face (bottom), the time is 8:08 or 88, the mileage necessary for the DeLorean to break the spacetime continuum. The time 10:04 is also an allusion to the date October 4th, when there are 88 days remaining to the end of the year on the solar calendar.

In The House of the Devil (released on October 30th, 2009, this author’s 38th birthday), unsavory pizza turns up twice, foreshadowing and denoting the repugnant Ullmans (Tom Noonan and Mary Woronov), who hire an awkward college student, Samantha (Jocelin Donahue) to babysit a remote mansion during a lunar eclipse, wherein they plan to supernaturally impregnate her via a satanic rite. Their surname recalls The Shining’s Stuart Ullman (Barry Nelson, 1917-2007), who likewise employed an eccentric Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) to babysit a remote hotel where fiendish ghosts roam its gloomy corridors. In the former film, Greta Gerwig plays Megan, who, while eating greasy pizza at a diner, arms and hands imitate Levi’s Goat of Mendes’ as above, so below occult kinesics since her initials are G.G. = 77, the gesture also seen on July 4th, 1921 photo during the closing moments of Kubrick’s fright flick. Greta was born on August 4th, 1983, a date with a Pythagorean reduced value of 42,[1] the Dark Mother obviously influenced her Ozian tour de force Barbie years later, released on July 21st, 2023 = 7, 777, 7. Easter egg: when Samantha orders a pizza, she is asked if she wants “extra anchovies,” a clever nod to the comedy Loverboy (1989), meaning the deliveryman would be providing a hell of a lot more than pizzas; in The House with the Devil, the guy bringing the pizza is a demonic assassin, keeping a Sauron-like eye on the babysitter.

Ruth Harker (Alicia Witt) was the diabolical 7th She in Longlegs (2024), a nod to Master Therion’s qabala. Witt was cast in the role because of her appearance in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks (1990-1991, 2017), a series all about doubles and duality. Easter egg: the lyrics to “Crimson and Clover” (1968) by Tommy James and the Shondells describe Longlegs and Ruth’s meeting and relationship to a tee.

Shades of Suspira (1977, 2018), Black Swan (2010), Dirty Dancing (1987), The Shining (1980), and, of course, The Wizard of Oz (1939) manifest in the trailer; for example, Terry Gionoffrio’s (Julia Garner) light blue socks and red shoes (seen when the demon emerges) give her away, making her Dorothy Gale’s counterpart – a stranger in a strange land. Can’t wait to see this one. Easter egg: The Pale Crook is a knockoff of The Black Crook (1866), the first produced Broadway play that features a dark sorcerer as one of the antagonists. Naturally, Apartment 7A is scheduled to be released on September 27th, 2024, generating a Baphometic nexus, linking Crook to Thomas Matthew Crooks (2003-2024), who attempted to assassinate President Trump 77 days earlier on July 13th. Another Easter egg: Dracula (1931) is playing in the next theater over, written by Bram Stoker (1847-1912), who the Bramford is named after.
On this, the 85th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz‘s theatrical debut, August 25th, 1939, here is a freebie from Cinema Symbolism 4 (and Cinema Symbolism OZ) linking the film to Choronzon, a demon critical in John Dee’s (1527-1608) Enochian system and Aleister Crowley’s (1875-1947) gematria. The designer of the Ruby Slippers was MGM’s most famous costumer, Adrian, who was born on March 3rd, ’03, which is 333, Master Therion’s number for the Dweller in the Abyss.
